Remembering Patrick Swayze
Posted by Steven Wilson on
Patrick Swayze is a dancer and actor who had some of his biggest movie hits in the 80s and 90s, most notably Dirty Dancing and Ghost. Some of his action film roles, while considered a tad cheesy, nonetheless have a cult following, including Red Dawn, Point Break and Roadhouse.
After many years of having a more quiet movie career, he made a great appearance as a sleazy motivational speaker in the cult movie Donnie Darko, released in 2001. Sadly he announced that he was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer in early 2008. However, while receiving treatment, he went on to star in the hit cable tv show The Beast.
Patrick Swayze passed away on September 14, 2009 at the age of 57.
“Fear causes hesitation, and hesitation will cause your worst fears to come true.”
This movie has become so much of a cult classic, it’s now a live stage show, where each night the role of Johnny Utah (Keanu Reeves’ character) is pulled from the audience and reads the lines for the part cold from a set of cue cards.
TO WONG FOO THANKS FOR EVERYTHING, JULIE NEWMAR
When word first went out that Patrick Swayze, Wesley Snipes and John Leguizamo were all going to do a movie and play drag queens, a lot of people shook their heads in disbelief. And then it turned out to be a really funny movie with some great performances!
